WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18 – 22, 2013

We want to thank all the parents for their support in making the Mayan Museum such a success! We also want to thank the parents who sent in popcorn for our Charlotte’s Web movie last Thursday. The children really enjoyed watching the movie! Thank you for the Valentine’s Day treats you sent for our students to share.

Last Thursday we sent the Midterm and MAP reports home, along with the IXL practice report. Please go over them and discuss them with your child, and send the Midterm report signed with your third grader. For additional practice on Reading and Math, we ask that as part of this week’s daily homework, you help your child use the following links to practice:

This week we will be working on the following:

ü      Math: we will have the Geometry test on Tuesday. We then will begin the unit on Fractions by learning to identify and draw equal sized regions of a figure.
ü      Theme: we have begun our studies of “The 5 Unknowns” in our Chemistry unit. This week we will learn about mixtures, filtration and we will test the unknowns with vinegar.
ü      Spelling: lesson 25 is about the ending /ld/ and /ft/ sounds. The quiz will be on Friday.
ü      R/W Workshop: we will finalize the descriptive writing of our favorite place, learn about adjectives and adverbs, do some independent reading, and begin Caleb’s Story for Read Aloud. New novels will be distributed this week. The children will have a choice between Ramona Quimby, Age 8, The Mouse and the Motorcyle. and Socks, novels written by Beverly Cleary.
