WEEK OF JANUARY 21-25, 2013

We hope you all had a great MLK long weekend! We want to congratulate our third graders on their participation in the assembly. We are really proud of you!

This is an exciting week in grade3! We will be going on a field trip this Friday to learn more about the Mayan civilization and prepare ourselves better for the Mayan Museum we will be putting together. A notice/permission slip will be attached to Tuesday’s Math homework. Parents should please read it and return it signed on the next day. We appreciate the parents that have volunteered to go as chaperones and provide their own transportation to our destination.

This week we will be working on the following:

ü      Math: we will learn about the different types of lines and angles, and about polygons.
ü      Theme: each group will work on the last 2 stations and we will be reviewing key concepts that have been covered. We will also prepare for our field trip on Friday.
ü      R/W Workshop: we will finish reading Skylark, and continue with our literature response activities in class. Please remember to read your home novel for this month every night.
ü      Spelling: there will be NO Spelling lessons this week! We will devote our time to finalize the internal grade 3 Spelling Bee, and work on grammar review.
ü      Handwriting: letter /H/ in cursive
ü      MATH MAP TEST THIS WEEK; Wednesday, January 23 (3A will go from 10:10-11:20 and 3B will go from 11:30-12:55) Please try not to be absent!

We have a new one month membership to IXL. Our third graders have their user names and passwords in their folders. This week, as part of their homework, they have to complete the following skills
                 R.1, R.2, and R.3  (for last week’s content)
                 R.7, R.18 and R.19 (for this week’s content)
We appreciate your support in encouraging your child complete these skills’ practice by the end of the week, and to use IXL to practice the multiplication and division facts.

The upcoming deadline to present the PROCEDURES in your packet is January 22. Please bring this completed as soon as possible!

CLOTHING DRIVE –Do you have any used clothing that you would like to donate to a worthy cause? If so, please bring any clean and folded items to the school any day this week and we will donate them to a charity. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Vincent Taylor (vtaylor@discoveryschool.edu.hn) for more information.
