WEEK OF NOVEMBER 12 – 16, 2012
There is a lot of important information on this post so please read carefully!

The second Science Fair deadline (Planning Page) is next Tuesday November 20. we appreciate all the support our third graders are getting at home for this project.

IXL – We have acquiered a trial membership for IXL for all our third graders. We will be using this to practice the multiplication and problem solving skills. We will be visiting the computer lab twice a week to do this, and our students are welcome to use their account to practice at home, once we distribute the user names and passwords for this month. We also encourage our third graders to practice the facts every night. Here are some websites you can also use:

Websites for practicing the Multipliation Tables

Websites for Problem Solving

This is what we will be working on in class:
Ø      Math: we will study 8 as a factor, look for patterns, use multiplication to compare and find patterns on a table. This week, we will begin with the Mini Multiplication Daily Drills (15 multiplication facts every day to increase speed and memory). If a third grader misses more than 5, they will get an additional practice sheet with their homework.
Ø      Theme:  we will be observing 12 minerals, drawing and describig them, and performing our first test (streak).
Ø      R/W Workshop: this week will be dedicated to the Sarah, Plain and Tall activities – the students will first work on an activity packet in class, and then will work with their partners on the project they chose for the book.  (Dioramas, Movie in a Box, Informational Posters, Mobile and Collage). Students may need assistance in getting the materials they need for this class project. Dont forget that the home novels and packets are due next Monday, November 19.
Ø      Spelling: lesson 13 is about words with -ed and -ing endings. The quiz will be on Thursday.
