WEEK OF OCTOBER 29 TO NOVEMBER, 2012

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Student Led Conferences last Friday. One of the many things that make Discovery a special school is the continuous support and involvement from our parents. Please do not forget to read the Parents’ Guide to MAP and use the links provided in it to help your third grader improve in the different skills.

The individual SCIENCE FAIR booklets were also given out last Friday. It is time to start thinking about possible projects. You may find the following websites useful:

Our third graders are working enthusiastically in all the new content and skills we are covering in class. This is what we will be doing this week:

·         Math: solving multistep problems, 0, 1 and 9 as factors, and problem solving skills. There will be a chapter test Tuesday.
·         Theme: we will learn about different types of maps. The students are having fun learning geographical concepts using Mimio activities.
·         Spelling; lesson 11, final /el/ sound. Quiz on Friday
·         R/W Workshop: we will begin our class guided reading novel, Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia McLachland. We will be working on text-to-text and text-to-self reflections in class.
·         Handwriting: letters /n/ and /m/ in cursive.

Important Reminders:
1.       Please do not forget to check the page on The Witches. We are planning to watch the movie on  Wednesday, October 31, and only those who have the slip attached to Monday’s math homework signed will be allowed to watch it.
2.       Wednesday is an early dismissal (AM Schedule). Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
3.       There will be a bake sale on Tuesday, October 30. Bring money to support our Seniors in this activity.
