WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24 -28, 2012

We continue learning many things and having fun in our third grade classrooms. We keep ourselves extremely busy throughout the day! Here is what we will be working on this week:

ü      Math: we begin this week our unit on addition and subtraction. We will be estimating sums and differences, over and under estimating, adding three-digit numbers and adding three or more numbers.

ü      Theme: we will be thinning and transplanting our Wisconsin Fast growing plants, we will also learn about the life cylce of plants, record their growth daily, learn about growth spurts and use a hand lense to observe dried bees while learning about these amazing insects.

ü      R/W Workshop: this week our third graders will be working with NOUNS (common and proper, plural and possesive forms). They will also be selecting individual readings from our Scholastic class library. Please remember to read the home novels every night. These are due on October 16.

ü      Spelling: lesson 7 is about the /oi/ sound. The quiz will be on Friday.

ü      Handwriting: letter /p/ in cursive

We will have a birthday celebration on Monday, September 24. Lunch and cake will be provided. Only pack a snack for your third grader please! 

This week our third graders will be taking the MAP Reading Assessment on Thursday. Please remind your child that he/she needs to do their best in these assessments. Please try not to be absent on this day.

The third Graders will participate in a CASA KINICH ACTIVITY this Tuesday, September 25 -  Casa Kinich or ¨House of the Sun¨ is the only child based learning center located near a Mayan ruins. They are undertaking a project to help raise awareness of the need to protect the scarlet macaw and its habitat. The museum director Londin Velasquez will be visiting our school to talk about Copan and specially about the scarleth macaw. Special thanks go to our 3-B mother Pucci Agurcia for coordinating this activity for the school.  

MINUTA FRIDAY - To raise funds for the ABSH Language Arts Festival in February 2013, the Language Arts Festival Committe will be once again selling Minutas (slushies) this Friday, September 28 during lunch time for L25 a piece. Please support this activity by letting your child bring money to purchase minutas on this day.
