WEEK OF JUNE 3 – 7, 2013

IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS WEEK WE ARE BRINGING OUR SCHOOL YEAR TO AN END! There are no words to fully describe what a wonderful journey this year has been. Our students have grown and learned so much! Knowing that they are finishing this year with a strong academic foundation for grade four, and reflecting on the lessons that each one has learned to become better students, classmates and friends makes saying good bye a little easier.

Thank you for your support in last weeks HONDURAS VENDE project last Friday! The children really enjoyed the activity, and raised a lot of money!!! The proceeds will be used to complement the expenses of our field trip, buy going away mementos for our three friends who are leaving Discovery School (Gabe, Liza and Diego) and for an ice cream snack on Thursday.

This is what will be going on in third grade this week:
·        On Monday our third graders will be taking a “pair test” on what we have learned about Probability. At 9:30 we will be leaving school fo our end of the year celebration/field trip! We will be back before 3:00 p.m.
·        On Tuesday, the students will be reflecting on their MAP goals for this school year, doing a final Reading Fluency assessment, playing probability games and reading more international fairy tales. This is an early dismissal day (11:45 a.m.).
·        On Wednesday we will continue with math activities, reading fairy tales and packing up our belongings. This is an early dismissal day (11:45 a.m.).
·        On Thursday we will have an end of the year ice-cream celebration, do some wrap up activities, and attend the Awards Assembly. Thursday is the last day of school for our students. This is an early dismissal day (11:45 a.m.).

IMPORTANT SCHOOL NOTICES:

CONCRETE PLANT UPDATE – The school has filed official denuncias in four agencies, attaching the documents that parents and teachers signed to each one. We are now in the process of investigating the plant with technicians, as suggested by the Alcaldia, to stop them from operating. The school's lawyer is following all legal means of halting the development of the concrete plant. We invite and encourage parents to come forward with any information, suggestion or idea that may help us to keep this process on the go by contacting Wendy Willemsen as President of the Board at wendywillemsen4@gmail.com. We will continue to update the school community regularly with new developments.
EARLY DISMISSALS – Monday, June 3 is a full day of school. Tuesday, June 4, Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6 are early dismissal days. We ask our parents to plan accordingly.

AWARDS ASSEMBLY – This year’s Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. Parents are welcome to come to this closing event of our school year (this is the last day for students).

DISCOVERY ZONE 4 – Our Summer Camp is back, beginning June 10. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) please stop by the office to pick up the registration form or access the form on our website (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn)  Great discounts are available!
