WEEK OF MAY 27 – 31, 2013
We hope you have all had a great long weekend! With only a
few days left in the school year, our third graders will be very busy (and
excited) about what is going on this week.
In our Economics unit, our students have been learning about
different economic concepts and principles. As a culmination activity for
this unit, the children will be participating in a project called “HONDURAS VENDE”. This is
a “market” in which, after careful planning, each group of students will be selling
a product that is made from recycled materials, and a food item inspired in
Honduran resources. On Tuesday, each student will take home a note specifying
what food item they need to contribute with in order to put together the food
they chose. We appreciate your cooperation in providing these items for your
child in order for this activity to be successful. Parents are invited to come
to the market on Friday, May 31 from 11:00-11:40 a.m. We
hope you will be able to come and join us for this activity.
We are planning the end of the year party for Monday, June 3. More details will be sent home on Wednesday in a note explaining the activity (field trip to Tatumbla) and the transportation/permission slips. Please email us or call us if you have any questions. A fee of L100 will be asked of each student, which will complement the money raised in the Honduras Market and what was left from the Easter Celebration.

Here is what we will be working on in the other different academic areas this week:
ü
Math:
we will be exploring the world of probability – categorizing events as certain,
possible (likely or unlikely) or impossible, or whether something is fair or
unfair. We will also be giving the chance for an event, writing it in ratio and
fraction form.
ü
Social
Studies: finalizing our Economics unit.
ü
R/W
Workshop: publish the fables we have written, read international fairy
tales, and work with a Time For Kids issue.
