WEEK OF MAY 13 – 17, 2013

We hope all our third grade moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday!

Thanks to the DPTO and our parents for a delicious lunch and special treat last Friday!

This week we will be taking the Reading MAP test on Tuesday, May 14. 3A will take it from 11:40 to 12:55 m.  and 3B will take it from 10:10 to 11:25 a.m. Please encourage your third graders to put forth their best effort in this assessment.  J

The School’s General Assembly is this Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. Important decisions need to made at this assembly (i.e. approval of budget and school calendar for 2013-2014), and a quorum of 57 families is needed. PLEASE COME! Your attendance and support is very important for our school. Three of our Board members will complete their 2-year terms (Wendy Willemsen, Wendolyn Sanchez, and Arnaldo Palma). These members are all running for re-election. This week we will be working on the following:

Ø      Math: we will making line graphs, solving problems and reviewing concepts to wrap up this unit. The Time and Data test will be next Monday, May 21.

Ø      Social Studies: we will learn about different types of resources, recycling, and opportunity/cost. Please remember to bring any reusable items you have to spare (see last week’ s blog post).

Ø      R/W Workshop: we will present short oral presentations on the important person each student researched.  We will then begin our unit on FABLES by learning about Aesop, and reading some of his fables. We will also be writing a fable of our own.

Ø      Spelling: lesson 35 is about the months of the year. The quiz will be on Friday.

Ø      THE CHRONICLES OF DISCOVERY GALA - The Chronicles Gala is this Friday,  May 17, 2013.  This formal, black tie event is modeled after the Oscars in that there will be pomp and extravagance, live entertainment and hors d’oeuvres, photographers and a quartet.  It is a celebration of literature and art, specifically for the Chronicles of Discovery Literary and Art magazine. 

The Gala begins at 7:00 p.m. May 17, 2013. Purchase your tickets for L. 100 from any AP English Composition student, Mr. Fenn, or Carolina. (EL Heraldo and TN5 will be covering the event.)

Ø      DPTO GARAGE SALE – The DPTO will have an Open Garage Sale on Saturday, May 25. The price per stand is L.500.00 please contact the DPTO officers for further information or email discoverypto@gmail.com .

Ø      DISCOVERY ZONE 4 – Our amazing Summer Camp is back, beginning June 10. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) please stop by the office to pick up the registration form or access the form on our website (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn)  Great discounts are available!
