WEEK OF APRIL 1 – 5, 2013

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter Break! We are glad to be back, ready to jump right into all the learning and fun in 3rd grade.

Thanks to Yessica, Sandra, Yudia, David, Ana, Collin and Sonia for helping us organize the Easter/Reward/ Farewell pool party before the break. The students had a blast!!!

Even though this is a short week, we dive into all the new and exciting topics we will be learning about. Here is what will be going on this week:

    • R/W Workshop: new Beverly Cleary novels and packets will be distributed this week. The due date for these novels is Friday, May 3. In class, new reading groups will be formed for the reading of two biographies (Louis Braille and Thomas Alva Edison, both by Margaret Davidson). We will be focusing on vocabulary skills and developing a timeline.
    • Handwriting: letter /I/ in cursive.

  • Math: we begin our unit on DECIMALS this week. We will learn about writing fractions as decimals to the tenths and hundreths, and comparing and ordering decimals.
  • Science: Our new unit is about SOUND. This week we will be using tunning forks, pencils and nails to explore loudness and pitch of sounds produced.

It is important to keep practicing your MAP reading skills in the http://www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/ro/pages/studentlinks/map/reading.htm website. This practice is helps our third graders improve in their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

The DPTO will begin to plan the school’s annual FUN RUN, and is inviting parents to a planning meeting this Thursday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
