WEEK OF MARCH 11 – 15, 2013

It is unbelievable that this Thursday marks the end of the third quarter! How time is flying by, especially when you are as busy as we are in class! The third graders continue to learn many new things and to have fun in our different class activities. This week, we will be working on the following:

v     Math: we will learn about Customary System of Measurement by using inches (to the nearest whole, ½ and ¼ inch) and feet. We continue with the daily multiplication drills.  We need every third grader needs a ruler with inches for this week!

v     Science: now that we have identified the 5 UNKNOWNS, this week we will be testing other mixtures and household liquids and other unknown liquids. They will be learning about acids and bases.

v     R/W Workshop: this week our special reading groups will be focusing on prefixes and suffixes. Two of the groups will be reading new books and doing response to literature activities with them (City Green and Boundless Grace); the third group will continue to read their novel (Maniac Magee or Frindle) We will also continue to enjoy Caleb’s Story for Read Aloud.  Don’t forget that the first Beverly Cleary Novel and Packet is due next Monday, March 18. v     Spelling: lesson 27 is about the /kw/ and /skw/ sound. The quiz will be on Friday.

v     Handwriting; letters /P/ and /R/ in cursive.

PARENT MEETING TO ORGANIZE THE MARCH 22 FIELDTRIP – We are inviting the homeroom parents and all the parents who want to come and help us organize the Mayan Reward Pool Party – Easter – Farewell to Jose Arturo fieldtrip this Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 a.m.  Please be on time!

Please remember to contribute with 2 pairs of scissors to help our junior students equip the rural school in Cayos Cochinos. If you are willing to donate these, please send them in this week.

DPTO MOVIE NIGHT THIS THURSDAY MARCH 14, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.!!! The DPTO will be showing "Madagascar 3" for students Nursery to grade 2, and "The Avengers" for grades 3 and up. They will also be selling popcorn, pizza and drinks.
