WEEK OF DECEMBER 10-14, 2012

We continue learning and having fun in third grade. This week, our Theme content will focus on three cultural holidays that are celebrated this time of the year: Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.  The culminating event for this learning will be a HOLIDAY THEME PARTY that will take place on Friday, December 14, from 10:10 a.m to 12:25 p.m. To make this a succes, we ask your cooperation for the following:

1.      The parents helping us organize the meal are asking for a L100 fee for the meal. This includes fried chicken (from Price Mart) french fries, drinks, cake and making a holiday craft
2.      Gift Exchange - We are encouraging all our students to participate in this fun activity (however, this is voluntary) by sending on Friday a gift for a child of the gender of your own child (if your third grader is a girl, send a gift for a girl and like wise for boys) of no more than L150 (Be creative! There ARE good things in stores which you can get for that amount!).

Our content for this week is the following:

Ø      Math: we will be working with the Try, Check and Revise Strategy, and we will be working with quotients for division facts with dividers 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Ø      Theme: we will be learning about Kwanzaa, Christmas and Hanukkah. On Friday, we will have 6 different stations with different activities related to these holidays before our party/meal.
Ø      Spelling: lesson 17 is about easily mispelled words. The quiz will be on Friday.
Ø      R/W Workshop: we will be finalizing our main idea compositions, and learning the parts of a letter to write some letters. We will also be doing some independent reading. Please remember that our novel are due next Monday, December 17.
Ø      Handwriting: letters /r/ and /s/ in cursive.

Please remember that our contribution to the School’s Support Personnel’s Christmas Baskets is a 4 lb bag of Maseca. If you have not yet sent it, we appreciate your support in doing so this week.
