WEEK OF NOVEMBER 26 – 30, 2012
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, and
that you are all off to a great start of the Holiday Season.
Midterm Reports were sent home last Wednesday. Please make
sure you sign and return them as soon as possible. If a conference was
requested we ask that you call and plan to come in this week. If one was not
requested but you would like to come in and talk, please call us.
IMPORTANT
INFORMATION:
- The school is organizing
the traditional Christmas Baskets for
the Support Personnel. The third graders have been asked to contribute
by bringing one 4lb-bag of MASECA, and any other
non-perishable item (i.e. canned goods, cookies, etc) you may want to
donate. Please send these in before Friday, December 14.
- The NPH Giving
Tree is located in the Secondary Building. If you want to be a part of
this wonderful initiative to provide the children of the orphanage with
shoes and socks, tags on the tree have the
children's size information. For more information talk to Mrs. Christina
Agurcia.
- Songfest in
around the corner! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 18. The
presentation will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. (children need to be back in
school by 5:30 p.m.). Our third graders will be singing : “So Long Farewell” from “The Sound
of Music”. Girls need to wear a formal dress, and boys formal pants, and
shirt with a tie.
REMINDER: This
Wednesday is an early dismissal (P.M. schedule) Children will leave school at
11:45 a.m.
This week our third graders will be working on the
following:
- Math: we will be wrapping the multiplication chapter by working on problem solving activities and choosing an operation. The chapter test will be on Thursday. PLEASE NOTE: We have been going to the computer lab twice a week to use our trial membership accounts in IXL. Each third grader can use these accounts at home, along with the links we have published in previous posts, or any other means to PRACTICE THE MULTIPLICATION FACTS EVERY DAY! The results of the daily multiplication drill done at the beginning of Math reflect who is studying at home, and who is not. Children who miss 5 or more problems take home extra homework on that day. We are now focusing on speed and accuracy in the facts! This is of outmost importance as we prepare to begin exploring DIVISION. We ask that parent be vigilant about this daily practice.
- Theme: we will be testing the minerals for their luster and hardness. We will also observe 4 new minerals this week.
- R/W Workshop: this week we will be doing different activities to learn about Main Idea and Supporting Details. The children will also be doing independent reading from the Scholastic Class Library. Don’t fall behind in the reading of your home novel- it is due on Monday, December 17.
- Spelling: lesson 14 is about the /spl/, /str/ and /spr/ sounds. The quiz will be on Friday.
- Handwriting: letters /w/ and /b/ in cursive.
- Science Fair Deadline: Research and Materials is due on November 27.
